Just Give Me the Hem
We all carry silent battles. Some are visible to the world, but many are hidden behind smiles, busyness, and “I’m fine.” For years, I too bled silently — from pain, trauma, and the lies that tried to chain me. I thought numbing and striving would be enough, but nothing truly healed me until I reached for Him.
This is the cry of the woman in Matthew 9:20–22 and Luke 8:43–48. For twelve years, she carried her suffering, unseen and unhealed by the world around her. But when she saw Jesus, her desperation turned into faith:
“If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed.” (Matthew 9:21, NIV)
That simple act of faith — a touch of His garment — changed her life.
Here’s my poem, born from that story and my own journey of desperate faith:
Just Give Me the Hem
I’ve been bleeding out for years while no one knew
I have been holding back the tears
As the pain grew
I have been fighting back the thoughts
That kept me up
Some days it was a lot
I had enough
I called out for some relief
And I heard a voice
It was very clear to see
I had a choice
Calling me from the shadows
It was time
The seed in me was shallow
But it had a vine
I believed in something more
But had no clue
That one day on the floor
I’d have breakthrough.
For years the door was shut
I was trapped
I didn’t know this kind of love
Only attacks.
Seeking for an answer
Anything to heal
Anything to numb
Anything to not feel.
Self-helping in every way
While I searched for truth
Until I heard Jesus say
All I need is YOU.
I didn’t need to be clean
Or earn my place
He said, stand up to be seen
He gave me Grace
All it took was a moment
Of desperation
It was then I had to own it
The separation.
I fought it my whole life
The path to Him
Thinking I wasn’t worthy or right
Full of sin.
Generations of chains
I had to break
Jesus knew my name
For Heaven’s sake!
I was the woman in the Bible.
Full of blood
Generations of survival
Shunned and shoved.
A solution to the suffering
God would send
If you just had faith enough
To touch the hem.
The enemy is lurking
Full of deceit
Keeping you searching
So you can’t see
God requires faith
Even just an ounce
Turn to Him today
Don’t count Him out.
You don’t have to understand
Or have the proof
Because when you begin to stand
You’ll see the truth….
Reflection
Friend, maybe you feel like that woman today — hidden, bleeding, tired, and desperate. Maybe you’ve tried everything the world has to offer and still find yourself empty.
Let this be your reminder: it’s not about perfection, performance, or proving yourself. It’s about reaching for Him. Even if all you have left is just enough strength to whisper, “Jesus, I need You.”
Healing isn’t always instant, but His presence is. And when you reach for His hem, you’re reaching for hope, restoration, and freedom that no one else can give.
💜 You don’t need to wait until you feel “worthy.” He is already waiting for you.
👉What “hem moment” do you need today? What pain, habit, or lie do you need to lay at Jesus’ feet so you can touch His garment and believe for healing?
"It is by your faith you are made whole..." The first step is to have faith. Whatever you are suffering with, it doesn't matter how long or how far you have to walk... Start walking and reach for his hem. When he replies, be ready to stand and be seen. You are capable, you are loved, you are worthy.
